Located 9 miles from downtown DC, Woodend was designed by John Russell Pope, the architect of the Jefferson Memorial. All events and meetings at Woodend contribute positively to Nature Forward’s environmental mission.

History

Woodend Mansion was built in 1927 and designed by renowned American architect John Russel Pope. Pope’s notable works include the Jefferson Memorial, the National Archives Building, and the DAR Constitution Hall. In 1969, the Wells family donated the 40 acres and the historic mansion to Nature Forward.

Historic Woodend is adjacent to Rock Creek Park, has hiking trails open year-round, and is a well-known location for bird watching, environmental education for children and adults, summer camps, corporate retreats, and eco-friendly events.

Woodend was a wonderfual setting for our wedding. We were sold on the historic house and the beautiful property, particularly the tree-lined grove.
